Burda Style For people who sew

I turned some very very cheap discounted fabric into a skirt featured in Burda World of Fashion Magazine (also available from this site now – how handy is that?).

The sales attendant had a lot of problems finding the correct fabric at the check out counter. Eventually she discovered that it was a curtaining fabric left in the wrong section of the shop. I can’t look at this skirt without thinking “this was meant to be a curtain”.

I learned a lot of lessons from making this. Most importantly, let circle skirts hang for at least a few weeks before re-trimming the hem and stitching the hem (and make sure it’s a really really small hem). The grains go all which ways on this skirt and the double layer design really makes it obvious (and ugly) when sections of the skirt hem are longer than others.
