girly twirly dress

Little Rock, Ark...

This dress is made for twirling, eating snow cones, and sitting on porches at sunset. Its just so summer-y and happy. My mom made a dress with this same pattern when she was in college, so it was fun reading her notes and thinking about what she was like then. I really struggled with the automatic button hole setting on my machine and also getting the fusible interfacing on the right side haha (you can’t rip that stuff off). Even though this dress took a lot longer then I originally thought, I’m glad I actually followed the directions this time and I really like the way it turned out!

Material Notes

checked cotton, white chino, mint green buttons, old butterick pattern from my mom

Garment Type

Very pretty! I’ve been fantasizing about a retro dress in a similar fabric. I’ve also got a box of patterns that used to be my mom’s but I haven’t made any yet. I hope to soon!

This is so cool – I really love the fact that you Mum made it when she was younger – and you’ve made it now and it looks lovely on you! I am dead in the heart of winter at the mo, so I can on imagine how cool and lovely this would be to wear and eat those snow cones! Lovely frock! xxx PS the belt makes it look extra cute.
