I made this fun, adorable, semi-romantic scrub jacket for work. I saw a ton of gingham on sale and just had to have it for $1.50/yd! I did not want it to look to hokey or country bumpkin. I was inspired by Christopher Kane and Bridget Bardot. I thought I did a good job of making it my own modern spin.
I did 3/4 length sleeves and if you notice at the top you can snap the sleeve up for a different look and to shorten the sleeve without having to roll it. I added to pockets up front and snaps down the middle. I was impressed that I was able to match the gingham on the front so well. The flowers were made by making circles/ovals/hearts. I used a trick I read somewhere to use a wood burning tool to cut out fabric if it had polyester in it because it will melt the edges and prevent fraying. Worked pretty well. I made one big flower on the top and a couple other smaller ones. I wanted them all on one side. I made my own bias seam binding and a bias cut belt for the jacket. I tried my had on machine embroidering for the belt, not perfect but I can deal with it. I did not want to face the belt, but after I did it now I know I should have added a little bit of interfacing. I made two belt loops on the side. If I don’t want to wear the belt around my waist then I can just tie it in the back to get out of the way. I faced the neckline and the center placket. I did set in sleeves.I did not use an actual pattern; I traced a scrub jacket of mine and altered it.
People at work loved it and it passed the work test. I paired it with navy scrub pants and my navy and white polka dot flounce top. I wore some adorable white leather pointelle converse shoes with it.

Is it based on hospital scrubs? Very creative interpretation!

yes it is based on my boring white hospital scrub jacket. We can wear whatever we want as long as it looks like scrubs. thank you :) i saw you’re from Galway my uncle just moved there, he said it’s beautiful! If you ever run into a gentleman named Jim West that’s him! He’s a riot!
