Geisha sundress

I bought this geisha-print fabric in Japan last year – I loved the fabric in Japan, and if I ever go back there I’ll buy lots more!
This was actually made last year, but the colour doesn’t photograph well indoors and it hasn’t been warm enough since I joined burdastyle to wear this, but today was an early bit of summer so I was able to photograph it. Taking the photos was fun, I decided to go down to the river below my place, but I hadn’t counted on quite how muddy and slippery it would be.
it was made using new look pattern 6902, bodice h, the skirt length is in between the two options in the pattern weren’t right for this fabric – too short or too long, and this needed something in between so that the focus would be on the geishas.

Material Notes

japanese cotton (komachi project)

Spring, Summer

Wonderful fabric indeed! I am a little bit jealous ;-) since I am very interested in Geishas and their history. So I am crazy about everything that has to do with them. Oh, and of course, a wonderful dress!

Oooh, it’s lovely! The fabric is fantastic. I agree, they have some beautiful fabrics in Japan. I bought some when I was there 10yrs ago, but I didn’t really sew much back then so I’m contemplating buying some more – better suited for clothes – on the internet. It will feel like winning the lottery to find something this nice, though!
