This hat is blocked on a vintage crown block and a custom made 1920s inspired brim block. It’s a light weight base covered in silk dupioni. Blocking is a method used in hat making, in which the milliner dampens the fabric and pulls it tight over the wooden block, and then pins it in place. So with silk this is a delicate process. The pieces are then sewn together, and the edge is hand finished with bias cut dupioni to match the hat.
