Used a costume pattern for the top, simplicity I think and made up the skirt.
I used period sewing techniques to cartridge pleat the back of the skirt, to give fullness.
I wanted a really good visual effect, so I tried chevron stripes on the bodice.
Silky feel pinstripe ripstop

I appreciate the pains it took to align the bodice pieces’ lines! What period and what techniques did you use?

The period is kinda edwaridan/victorian…
I used cartridge pleating on the skirt, which starts like smocking but you have to sew each pleat onto the waistband/bodice by hand. That technique is used in much older gowns too but I wanted to try it!
The bodice is from some OFP simplicity pattern for a saloon girl and yes, those lines do go a bit wonky in places!!

Thanks for the comments!! This was made for a model friend and has since been taken apart so I could resolve some fitting issues. It’s going to become part of a mini collection, I’ve made a shorter circle skirt and a cropped jacket.

I really like it! The stripes add an interesting effect, especially gathered into the skirt.
