Gardening Hat

Added May 27, 2014

by Kanaru

This hat is a gift for my mother in law who grows vegetables as a hobby.
I wanted to thank her for always sending us delicious organic vegetables our family loves!

I chose a linen / cotton gingham fabric, thick enough to protect the face and neck from the sun, yet light enough to stay cool.
The linen will let out the heat from within.

I used my rolling hem foot for the first time to do the hem on the bottom. It was a bit challenging, especially because I was working on a curve, but it was well worth it!

A sturdy polyester batting is inserted in the brim to keep its shape.

Material Notes

linen / cotton blend

Thank you all for your comments! Yes, the design is very vintage, but practical indeed. I guess a good example of how some old designs never loose its purpose.

The pattern is from a book by a Japanese stylist / pattern designer, Masako Ito. Amazon link here

    Happy sewing!

This is very nicely done! It has a vintage look to it, and is very practical as well. Did you make your own pattern or use a purchased one?
