So, I’m going to the Bahamas May 1st. And, I decided that I wanted something nice and floaty to wear around, either over top of a bathing suit or with some shorts if I didnt want a sunburn. So, I was browsing around online (urban outfitters, freepeople… all that) and I was inspired to make this little number.
A week or two ago I used this idea to make me a dress form. So, I made the pattern up myself, draping as I went. I’m really really thrilled with my first 100% original peice. And, its by far the most silky, comfortable thing I’ve ever worn.
The yoke I did while experimenting with the machine embroidery on my Janome 525S. I’m pretty thrilled with the outcome… it was exactly what I’d pictured.
**oh, I know the yoke’s not lying flat in most of the pictures. it does… I just didnt notice until after the photos.
Grey something… it feel delightful.

Big thanks to KBang and her tutorial on mock smocking. Her Eight Dollar Dress Tutorial saved me a whole lot of hassle. Amazing instructions!

The yoke did take some time. The embroidery was pretty straight forward, just a little time consuming – talk about repetitive! I pretty much designed the top around the yoke…but it was a lot of experimenting (interfacing the yoke.. then deciding to line it too)
Thanks for all the comments! I really appreciate it!

I’m really impressed. Not only have you made something original, you’re added so much detail with the machine embroidery. The yolk must have taken a long time to embroider.
