Nashua, New Hamp...
This is just a simply cap sleeve bateau neck sheath dress using New Look 6643. The fabric is a curtain I bought at a Goodwill store for $2. The curtain is 100% cotton with black flowers embroidered all over it – exceptionally nice quality fabric. The curtain featured a black bias strip of fabric trim sewn over the stitching of the hem, so I decided to preserve the original curtain hem when I made the dress. I think it adds a nice design feature and it made the dress that much faster to sew since I did not have to hem it – just had to adjust the length on the pattern piece before cutting.
This is my third time making this pattern, and I finally perfected the fit. More about that and my inspiration for the dress on my blog.
100% cotton embroidered cotton curtain, polyester lining. I’ve made this same pattern before using a peach skin drapey fabric as well as a polyester acetate, so I was not sure how the dress would hang using something stiff like cotton (the cotton is quite thick). But it ended working quite nicely and the silky lining fabric underneath helps the dress move over the body more and not be so stiff.
