I volunteer at an art and music school in Ouidah, Benin. About a month ago we had a group of Nigerian students come visit so I thought friendship bracelets would be a perfect project to do with them and my own Beninese students. After the activity, I found myself with a longing to continue making those bracelets. But I didn’t want to wear them on my wrist, I wanted to put them on a dress.
I did a lot of braiding at the beach or outside when electricity would go out. As much as I enjoy sewing I enjoy being outdoors too, and it’s nice to have projects where portions are portable.
And so here they are! I made 5 friendship bracelets and used it in the bib variation that can be found in the laurel extras booklet. The rest of this Laurel is made with secondhand bed sheets.
I wrote more in my sewing journal here: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2013/04/19/friendship-bracelet-bib-colette-laurel/
