French Maid Costume

Added Oct 22, 2008

Norman, Oklahoma...

The theme for a halloween party was “classic costumes.” I chose french maid, and this outfit was born. The skirt is a circle skirt in black satin trimmed in white tatted lace. The shirt was a simple off the shoulder shift of cotton gauze with ribbon run through the top and arms instead of elastic. The corset is a black cotton velvet civil war corset, fully boned with metal boning and a busk up the front. The apron was added last. The real key to the outfit was the corset.

Material Notes

Corset: Black cotton velvet, metal boning and busks, tightly woven lining material, and metal two part grommets.
Skirt: Black Satin, white tatted lace.
Shirt: White cotton gauze, white ribbon.
Apron: White cotton, white lace.
Headpiece: White lace.
