I made this dress with the intention of it having something of a french vibe, hence the striped bow. It’s made with a red cotton twill and the bow is just a regular quilting cotton. I used New Look pattern number 6910. I made it while living in Tonga as a Peace Corps volunteer, and sewing supplies were somewhat hard to come by, so I wasn’t able to locate a long-enough zipper. I improvised and left the top part of the back open with a button at the top. Hopefully it looks intentional!

How did I miss this? It’s gorgeous!! What a great way to funkify an elegant dress so that it can be worn in more varied settings. I also love the color and the fit and your hair and your shoes and I’ll stop before I get too creepy!

The bow detail really elevates this dress from a sweet red dress to a funky summer frock! Good job! The back detail is great too, good improv!

What a beautiful dress. The color is awesome too. The zipper problem resulted in a very unique detail, I like it!

I love this the color is so beautiful! I rarely wear red but I think it looks so beautiful especially on your complexion! did you op stitch the bow into place or slipstitch it? I love that you decided to attach it completely to the dress and not just left it hanging.

Thanks! I just stitched and tied the bow a few times from the inside to tack it on…nothing too fancy :)

it looks great! And I guess you found a great solution too for people who don’t have someone to help them zip up the back :)
