When I bought a ruffle foot, my Fiance mentioned he’d never wear anything made with the foot, unless it was a Period Costume. And then he came across the Dandy Lion pun in a game he plays, Kingdom of Loathing. And from there, he was DOOMED.
This is the shirt, vest and trousers from Simplicity pattern 4923 (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2198-costumes.aspx). I will also be making the coat… eventually.
The cravat is a 5 foot long scarf made with a remnant of the lining, and hemmed with my beloved rolled hem foot. Thankfully, the boy knows how to tie a cravat on his own.
There is a mane behind that mask; it’s made with about 200 yards of grosgrain ribbon sewn in loops to a headband, and held in place with wig clips. it was irritating to make, and took more time than any of the other costume pieces, and he only wore it for pictures. What a brat!
The shirt is unbleached cotton muslin, and trimmed with nylon lace. The vest and trousers are an unknown fiber upholstery brocade that we got for $4/yard in Oakland. They're lined with poly lining that was $5/yard. Oh, the irony. And the ironing. Ack. The pants take 8 buttons (three on each leg, two for the front flap) but the pattern says only six, so we faked it. The vest called for 11 buttons, but we used slightly larger buttons and only used 8. Fair warning: the coat takes 28 "assorted" buttons, and doesn't tell you how many of what size it requires. We just got 28 of the same size, and hopefully it'll be ok.

I did make my gown, too. Thanks for the compliment!
I chose the blue because he’s a redhead, and looks great in blue, plus I couldn’t get the image of Mozart out of the movie Amadeus out of my head while I was putting together his outfit. And then we found the PERFECT fabric right off the bat, and for so cheap… it was ment to be. _

You will laugh, but that’s what the costume reminded me of – Amadeus. Also, though, the mask made me think of Excalibur (1981) where Arthur’s son (if my memory doesn’t fail me) wears a mask sort of similar to this one. And yes, I loved your dress too!!!!
