I was making this suit while the suit contest was running. It couldn’t compete because I drafted all the patterns myself. I bought this fabric and decided it would be fun to do an elaborate classic suit. I was going for kind of a vintage look without picking one style exactly. It consists of a tailored jacket, wide drapey trousers with belt pleats at the front, a simple waistcoat and a fit-and-flare skirt. All pieces are lined.
wool/polyesther (black and white herringbone) tweed, burgundy satin-y lining, black stretch lining (for skirt and trousers), fusible interfacing for wools, zippers, trouser hooks, grommets and ribbon

Thanks everyone! I really enjoy your comments. Actually, you can’t vote for my suit in the contest (I wish you could…) because I didn’t use Burdastyle patterns. I would love to be able to offer the patterns, but as I draft everything by hand and fitting is a big issue with items like these, it would take up a massive amount of time to do so (because I would want to offer it multisize, like my jeans skirt pattern). If you love the skirt however, you could make yourself something very similar by using the ‘Garbo skirt’. it’s in the ‘pattern’-section, but it’s more of a how-to for a six gore skirt to your own measurements. It’s not the method I used to make my skirt, but it should come close. To make it like mine, make the gores flare out from about 12 cm above the knee and extend the top to 5 cm above the waist.

Incredible—I love it! I hope you upload the pattern (I guess you could even charge for it now). Not that I would be ready to tackle such an ambitious project… yet.

Your beautiful suit does indeed have a vintage 1940’s flavor. You really nailed the tailoring too. And oh, it’s so good to again see flowing, wide-leg trousers with a fitted high waist! Though I wish I could, I can’t wear skin-tight, low-rise pants. They never look right, no matter how fit and thin I get. But I would shine in the suit pants you created. They’re classy and confident. And I agree with everyone else: that skirt is to die for!

What a wonderful suit! This must have been very time consuming, espescially with drafting the patterns yourself. I’m really impressed and loving the skirt variation.
