Description

This is the dress my mum made for my formal. I fell in love with a gorgeous designer dress in the store, but it was extremely expensive. So my mum and I decided to replicate it. Due to factors such as time and fabric availability the dress ended up quite unlike the dress I had in mind. I still love it I think we did an admirable job! The dress is made of a soft gold crepe with a black Georgette overlay. A bit tricky to sew, but it gave the dress this intriguing shimmer…

Material Notes

soft gold crepe; black Georgette; invisible zipper

my mum for doing the bulk of the sewing (exams and assignments prevented me!), a few old patterns for the basic bodice and A-line skirt

in Australia year 12 is the last year of school and at the end of the year we sit our final exams and to celebrate finishing school we also have a “formal” or “graduation” (depending on the school). It is much like what Americans call a Prom. We also usually have one 2 years earlier at the end of year 10 because a lot of people leave school then as well.
Typically someone in year 12 is about 17 and someone in year 10 is about 15.
