I wanted to make a Tulip Dress and bought Vogue pattern V8511. The material I think is actually for quilting and is medium/heavy cotton and lovely bright colours and pattern. I was a bit worried the material would be overpowering but really liked the pattern so ended up giving it a go. The stiffer material worked well with the tulip skirt and makes the shape stay nicely. Getting the princess seam to fit was a bit of a muddle but it is the first princess seam bodice I have done and needed to reduce the bust a bit so I guess it was always going to be a fiddle. I mostly followed the pattern but I did stitched down to the pleats in the front of the skirt to keep them in place which the pattern doesn’t do. I am happy with the dress and can dress it up or down, I wore it to a wedding but have also worn to work.

Yes yes yes! Everything about this is elegant and wonderful. It echoes a hint of vintage flair, and I think you were right to go with that fabric. It’s an amazing dress, and I absolutely want one now!
