The problem: I used a pattern for a simple elasticated, A line skirt, but for this very sheer fabric it was not really suitable. I reinforced the waistband with fusible facing, which made the skirt ride up over the waistband when I tried it on.
The solution: I removed the elastic and decided I would sew in some darts around the top, I made the skirt fit my waist, which meant I had to cut an opening and add a placket which is then closed with a small piece of velcro. The inner waistband is lined in plain cotton voile. To finish, I added a wide band which is fixed to the waistband with some stitching and tied in a bow off-centre.
Conclusion: Very happy, now it looks pretty :)
Very sheer, cotton lawn in a retro fifties rose print, fine polyester thread, fusible interfacing, velcro.
The style is more suited to thicker fabrics as listed below.
