I started this skirt a couple of months ago and it has changed so much since it was first born! I loved the fabric print but couldn’t make up my mind what to do with it. I settled on an easy skirt, one piece of fabric, with an elastic waistband and all I had to do was put a lace hem on it. I put it down for maybe three weeks and when I came back to it and tried it on ready to finish the hem, I thought it looked awful!
So, I took it apart completely apart from the hem and started again. I used inspiration several times from the book “Sew what? Skirts!” which I love, and decided to make more of an A line, zipped (really proud of my zip!), fitted skirt with a few embellishments.
I used my seam ripper on this skirt more times than I care to mention! Mostly waistband problems, and eventually added a couple of darts at the front (first ones!) I found some great buttons too with a glittery effect that I wanted to use. So finally, I have a skirt that I am really happy with and that I know I will wear when the weather suits!
Final embellishments: Sparkly buttons, double needle wiggly stitching, lace hem, fitted waistband
Cotton batik print
