These are some brooches I made.
the petals are cut up separately and sewn onto a metalic base (that looks a bit like a very small metal strainer)
the edges of each petal are burnt with a cigarette lighter to both prevent it from fretting and to give it a structure

So…this is me saying “of course! cigarette lighter to prevent fraying” and go off to burn all the brooch, the remaining fabric on the floor, my fingers and god knows what else. I must find another way to prevent fraying…burning will end up in disaster for me.
