This sewing project was for my first Mash Up of 2014!. I made the top and then afterwards with leftover fabric I decided to make a matching mini skirt. I used a double stretch-knit fabric in vibrant blue and paneled with a sheer polka-dot black mesh… I do love my paneling. I especially like the effect of the sheer flounce over laying the tight skirt, but also looks great worn with black pants.
For the top I used our Skirted Top pattern, and drafted my own inset collar. Then for my matching skirt I used this Mini Skirt pattern. I love this skirt pattern! I made it 2 sizes down from what I normally sew because the fabric was stretchy, and then I omitted the center back zipper and cut on fold instead.
You can check out my drafting and sewing process here. I am really digging the “two piece dress” style. I love the look of a matching top and skirt, and then you have the option of wearing them separately.
Take a trip down the aisle in these gorgeous gowns, or change the fabrics for a spring party dress.
