Kwiksew 1812 – You could almost call this a vintage pattern now.
This is the first garment with my new sewing machine. I thought it would be a good idea to make a nightie as if the sewing went badly it wouldn’t matter too much.
I misjudged some of the buttonhole placements but otherwise it went very well. my old sewing machine was like an extension of myself so it will take a little time to adjust.
I essentially followed the pattern except that:
1.I bound the armhole with bias binding rather than lace.
2. Used ecru cotton lace, very slightly gathered and bias binding around the neckline and
3. Added a plain, flat hem on the bottom.
No scratchy lace issues this way!
The fabric was a cotton lawn by John Kaldor Fabricmaker from my stash. What a shame they went out of business in 2004.
