First ever dress. First side zip, first lining, first gathering, first fully fitted anything and it came out great. I had to hand sew the last bits of the lining to the zip and gathered section as I couldn’t work out how to do it with my machine. The dress instructions were pretty straightforward…with a little help from you-tube. I omitted the in-seam pocket as it seemed to slightly puff out and ruin the line of the skirt. I used an old white pillowcase for the lining. It required a fair bit of resewing to get the fit right as I don’t have a dress form but with some expert pinning by my fella, I got there.

Beautiful! I’ve been wanting to make a dress like this for a while, but for whatever reason I try my best to avoid zippers and linings. Seeing you tackle all of this for your first dress makes me want to get over my fear and just do it!

Thanks, I’m pretty chuffed. I couldn’t have done it without you-tube and google though! It seems there is a video tutorial for everything.
