These floral fabrics are cotton voile in soft and sweet colors. I made them into these simple dresses with bubble hem. The bodices are cut on bias so they are a bit stretchy. The bubble effect is achieved by simply inserting elastic into the skirt hem. These dresses are so comfortable, almost like a long tank top.

Super cute, as usual! I wonder if you have any fabric store recommendations that you might be willing to share? I’m going to be in Tokyo for a week in August, and I would love to stock up on some of the gorgeous cottons that you always have!

Oh wow I don’t think this little box can contain all the joy of Tokyo fabric store!
There is Nippori, a street full of fabric stores on each side where you can find any kind of fabrics. You can also go to Yuzawaya for craft and fabrics one-stop-shopping. There’s one in Shinjuku and also in Kichijoji. For various Japanese cotton and linen and cut fabrics, there’s Cottonfield in Kichijoji, it’s good if you like making bags or other small projects.
I can go on and on and on…

Thank you! I make my own pattern, but it’ easy. The lower part is just a pair of rectangles, I gathered and sewed it to the the bodice, then an elastic is inserted in the skirt hem.

QUESTION: what are bocice cut on bias mean?
http://www.craftstylish.com/item/1563/how-to-find-the-biasANSWER: the bias is the direction of the fibres in the fabric. to get a better understanding of this, i suggest you look at:
this site tells you all about what the bias is and how to find it on the fabric. it also tells you the inportance of the bias.
once you know this lay your bodice piece so that it is in line with the bias. by doing this it will make the dress sit nicer.
hope this helps you out :D
