This dress is my entry for week two of Project Sewn , a sewing competition for women’s clothes. Each week there’s a theme to sew for and someone gets voted off! It’s the sewing equivalent of Survivor. Totally cutthroat!
This week’s theme is a Sundress. I started with the Victory Patterns ‘Satsuki’ as my base and went to town with triangle cut-outs in the front (a sunbeam for my sundress!) and a strappy lattice of triangles in the back. A sundress just ain’t a sundress without some strappy-ness! The body of the dress features giant kimono sleeves (good air flow is essential in OZ) and a tie at the waist to cinch you. The fabric is a silk crepe de chine floral print.
I started this comp two weeks ago with noooo drafting skills, let alone re-drafting skills! So constructing this dress kind of felt like putting an Ikea cabinet together without the manual….you know its possible, but as for how? Guesswork and lots of trial and error!
