Christmas is a great time to use my friends as guinea pigs for new sewing projects. I found this blue-green flannel while looking for something else of course, and I envisioned a Western shirt with pearl snaps and piping. I have never piped nor attempted to pipe anything, so I bought some piping…
I already had the McCall’s M6044 pattern. I used the internet to get some tips on said piping and I kind of did ok. It’s certainly not perfect nor pointy enough at the yokes, collar and flaps, but it’s a start. I also don’t think I’ll ever make another buttonhole again after discovering pearl snaps! Just bang ‘em on? Sold. Biggest issue was getting the bias cut pieces to work out right. They didn’t quite and I’d love tips on that.

Great piping work, especially on the collar.

Awesome piping! And the shirt of course is also great :-) I know what you mean about getting sharp corners piped – not sure how you do that??

thanks Ralf. it was one of those “just go for it” moments and it was a lot easier than i anticipated. now i’d like to try making my own piping out of scrap fabrics.
