Flamenco dress for Feria

Added May 13, 2013

Rota, Spain

Made this dress for last week’s Feria de Jerez. The bust is cut from model 111-Burda 12/1012. The rest is influenced by a dress from Juana Martin’s last year collection. It took 3 weeks of hard work, trial and error and improvising. I watched all the pictures and videos I could find online with the dress and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how those amazing ruffles are done. I went with shirred bias cut strips(got the idea from Jullia Bobbin’s rose sleeve). I had to limit myself to just 7 meters of fabric for the ruffles, as the dress was becoming quite heavy. A fuller look would need at least 14 meters, but also a crane to lift me up. I think the red fabric is jacquard. The dress has an invisible zipper, bias piping around neckline and soft tulle petticoat. Ole!
