Description

This was my first project with my sewing machine. I began with the instructions in Diana Rupp’s ‘Sew Everything Workshop’ with a couple of alterations as I went along… a tote bag really isn’t a complex project, so these alterations were minor – a change in measurements to make the bag better suit my requirements etc.

Material Notes

As I intended to use this tote as a book bag, it was important to use fairly strong fabric; I went with a toile canvas, lined with a very light cotton. The handle was made from the same canvas, for strength.
Denim, corduroy, upholstery fabrics and wool/blends would also work well.

thanks everyone :) I ended up filling it up with individually wrapped gifts and giving it to my little sister for her bday – she loved it!

Cute tote bag! Congrats on your first sewing project with your new machine! I’ve always loved toile too, something about it is fun and emotional. Enjoy it!
