I made this ages ago from a free pattern available here:
http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1486_couture/create.php
I’m not actually that keen on it – it was very hard work for the overall effect and I don’t really like the tuck just under the bust. Also I altered it to make it higher-necked but I’m not very pleased with how I did it, and I deliberately didn’t show any back pictures because I didn’t put the zip in very well.
But apart from that…! its wearable and does have a cute fifties look so i’m reasonably satisfied.
Sorry for the bare feet – I forgot my heels.
striped polycotton.

I noticed that the seams and hemming puckers a bit, but that’s just me being picky. _
But it really is a very wonderfully made dress! You did a good job with the whole cut and sew, but I’d like to see the zipper. I"m sure you did fine on it, zippers are my weak point since my sewing machine is too old to have a zipper attachment. That pattern looks really fun, and the color suits you really well!!
As for the seams all that need is some extensive ironing work. Just set your iron in med-hot and iron down the seams. Maybe the tension on your machine is a bit tight, too. As for the hemming (this takes a long time but it looks pretty in the end) I’d suggest hand sewing and invisible or a cross stitch and ironing that down as well. It makes it look less home sewn and adds a bit of couture flare.
The dress REALLY LOOKS GOOD ON YOU THOUGH. It’s gorgeously made!
