I took part in a felting beginner course today and this is what we made.
Some words on how we made it: We used two kinds of wool: some carded wool fleece (the white part) and some wool in bands (the blue parts). The fleece is for your basic shape, the advantage is, that the wool fibres are already in different layers which cross, in contrast to the band wool, where the fibres go only in one direction (so if you only use band wool as a basis you have to put the fibres so that the cross). So we made a circle out of the wool fleece and put the blue fibre on it. Then you put a layer of gaze I think (maybe organza would also work?) on it. The you spill it carefully with some warm water and coat it with some soap. And through the gaze you rub the whole thing, first carefully (because the fibres could move). The proportion of water and soap is a little bit tricky. After a while you turn it round, “decorate” the back side of it with some fibre, again put the gaze on it, some water and soap and start again. The last step is the fulling. For the deepening of the blossom in the middle you can already put your blossom circle in the middle and fold the edges down, roll it into a towel (really tight) and full it.
So I hope you understood what I mean. It is difficult to describe felting in english (don’t know if I used the correct words).

I love it! I have some alpaca fibers I’ve been trying to felt staring at videos on you tube with how toes…Any clues you could give me would be of so much help…did you use a felting needle or an embellishment machine? Thanks!

Oh, I LOVE it! I have been wanting to try some felting.
Did you use a machine or felt by hand?

Delicate and charming. The few felted things I’ve seen have been really cute, but more “cartoony” with lots of solid colors. I’m really taken with this softer, more blended felted creation. I hope you’ll post more!
