I love looking at designer clothes for inspiration, like a Calvin Klein top I used last year, or even going into Nordstrom and inspecting the inside of garments for construction details and ideas. As I was snooping around my favorite local fabric store, this fabric jumped out at me. It makes me think of the Italian fashion house Missoni, know for their famous zig-zag and geometric knitwear. So, in a sense, the fabric inspired me to make a dress styled like the Missoni dresses I’ve seen in Neiman Marcus, but for a fraction of the $1,000 price they usually retail for (seriously, I made this for under $30).
More details about the dress on my blog: http://sewwrong.blogspot.com/2013/03/faux-missoni-dress.html
I used the Renfrew pattern from Sewaholic Patterns for the top of the dress and blended it with Vogue 8138 for the skirt portion.
