Inspired by a past article on Burda about working with faux fur, I took a stab at bringing back the stylish muff, only I added some modern day twists like a bold black and white graphic print, striped rayon lining, fringe and chain. Super fun and I will definitely be making more come next Winter.
I have been curious (and scared) of using steel boning for some time but making these panniers from a vintage pattern and covering them in quirky gold-toned wax print fabric from Cameroon was a blast.
Muff : Faux fur, rayon blend lining, poly padding center, fringe and chain Pannier = Cotton/poly wax print shell, steel boning, bias tape boning channels and grosgrain ribbon for waist tie Lots of mis-matching fringe hung haphazardly for a make-shift bodice Earrings = Bundles of leather fringe taken from a child's vintage Native American suede jacket that I sewed together and appliqued with gold foil cut into heart shapes, metal earring post backing

I love this muff!!!! Where did you find such awesome faux fur? or did you make the design?

Aww, thank you Loyl8! It was in the faux fur aisle at the fabric store in my city. The pattern is super delicious though. I’m going to put in on my dress form and take a few close-ups tonight, if I have time.

I commented on another project of yours not sure what it would look like close up. Judging by this – pretty awesome.

I wish I had more close-ups. Photographers are picky about what they give out sometimes. Sigh. I’ll do my own photos next time. Thanks for your kind comment.

I’m trying to reply to you Sara about photographers being picky about what they give out. WHAT!! A photographer had the pleasure of photographing your work and was ‘picky’ about what they shot and gave you? Oh jeezus, I’m a photographer and that prima donna behavior just gives me the biggest case of eye roll ever. It’s your work they are photographing, if you want a detail highlighted then you should have that detail highlighted. Don’t be afraid to demand it.
