  First of all, love both dresses and they look fabulous on the model ! But I’d have to agree with the previous comments and say that she doesn’t look like a plus size model to me, although I probably wouldn’t have bothered to comment on that, had there not been sooooo many remarks which I would like to comment on for once. Why all the negativity? Surley this website is a bonus to all of us? Free download patterns, more sophisticated patterns for sale at very reasonable prices, not to mention all the inspiration you can get by merely looking at all the wonderful projects people publish !! As to the comments about not knowing if this dress will look any good on you, because it has been presented on a non plus size model, I can only say that since I’ve started with this hobby, I have become much more aware of my size and actual body shape, and know much better what suits me and what doesn’t. And as to the comments about the name of the dress……….well, what can I say ? It’s a name for crying out loud !!! Why would anybody even think the name had anything to do with the size?? I for one am very happy to have this website at my disposal, be able to look at all the wonderful ideas and creations, which have inspired me on more than one occasion, so thank you very much Burdastyle !!!

  I think this model MUST be “plus” sized, she has normal looking calves. LOL regular models look like they walk on sticks.

  i hate to say it but, if you r going to have a plsu size dress, please use a plus size ( sz 18 or over) model. because i see this model and in no way does it say "plus size " to me

  im a size 18 with a 42ddd chest and a 40 waist, and many times i see a plus size pattern and when i look at it, i know for sure im going to have to make many pattern alterations. i would just like to see a model that is more on the “plus” side.

  not that i cant alter a dress to fit my needs, because trust me i can and have, but visually it would be refreshing to see a bigger model.

  I loved the first plus version in aqua, but wasn’t sure about how that neckline would look on me. But now I really love this new version, because I know the style would work for me! Nice work. I love the colors of the wool. I may just have to buy this one…

  Has anyone here ever seen America’s next top model? Women modelling for the ‘regular size’ are always smaller than they expect the regular size to be. It’s the same for Plus size, they are curvier women but on the smaller end of the Plus range.

  I can’t believe how many people on here whinge… it’s sad. Maybe cause it’s a bunch of women here and we tend to do this.. but seriously, anything on the internet of value often has a price charge. I am amazed by the amount of quality free products Burda Style puts out, when no other site would give out such things. And the site is regularly monitored and free help for all users. There is a pattern a week! Surely that impresses some of you. I’m grateful for everything Burda gives, and i love seeing the same pattern in a different style (a reason why i love this site!). Use what you can as inspiration, or be inspired to make it better than what you see.

  Gorgeous dresses in gorgeous colours. I think it’s wonderful that BurdaStyle produces these professional patterns (both basic and more advanced), then every week shows off what can be done with interesting fabric combinations and pattern variations so we can have a concept of how they look in 3D on a real person. Having been involved with shoots, I can only imagine how much work goes into pulling together a shoot like this for every outfit from pattern conception to sewing it up to getting hair, make-up, photography, lighting, post-production etc etc. And on top of this, we get the wonderful resource of being able to browse what everyone else does with the patterns for inspiration!! I really look forward to the BurdaStyle creations every week. Thanks!

  Hi, I can certainly understand some of the comments here, but, I’m thankful that Burda does put out such stylish pattens for plus sizes. I do have one question that perhaps someone could help with and that is: for those of us w/ not-too-great looking upper arms, does anyone have any suggestions about how to put a sleeve on this pattern? Think it’s worth a try, but, I don’t do sleeveless. Thanks! Jan

    A aolution I have for not having bare arms is to make a gauze type open jacket that is very feminine and cool.

    do you have any other patterns with sleeves?
    i often just grab sleeves from another pattern to add it onto the one i want :)

    Or you could always wear layers!

  This pink plus version is stunning, and Alden is gorgeous as usual! Bravo! Is there any chance that you might share where you found these lovely crepe wools?

  I would consider purchasing this pattern but I am still very confused about the sizing. I know that’s a hot button issue, but I’d like to know what size was used for Alden’s versions. I’m trully tempted to purchase this plus version for the ample bust darts, but I know from experience that anything over a 44 is just too big for me. Seeing Alden wearing this plus verison makes me doubt what I know about Burdastyle patterns and my own measurements.

    Hi Wzrdreams,

    We found them at B & J, they have tons of them in all different beautiful colors.

    In terms of size, Alden is a mixed size so we have to do adjustments. In your case, why don’t you get the regular size, it has all sizes from a 34 through a 46, then you are definitely covered!

  The whole point of sewing your own clothing is to customize it to suit your needs. None of the patterns that Burdastyle creates will suit every single person out there. That is impossible! Use your imaginations and if you know so well what is wrong with the pattern for you body type, then in the true fashion of home sewing, fix it to fit yourself! These patterns are bases to be adapted………

    you have a point, but when its targeted to a plus size drown and the model chosen is not plus size, it makes a difference. also, the dart issue..I BIG deal for plus size girls

  Personally I love to see the patterns looking their most glamourous on some fancy model (alden included) – and surely if Burda Style were to start splashing out on professional models that would push thier prices up…and I thought we were all dead against that!

  Alden, as ever you show the garment off wonderfully, and burda style you do a great job providing us with on trend pieces every week…keep it up!

  I quite agree with a lot of the other posts that the name FATina is not flattering to all shapes and sizes, that it should have been shown on a plus size model to get a real sense of how it would look on a woman with ample proportions, and that the high neckline is not at all flattering for a lot of large women. A V-neck is a much better option for large women with large bustlines. The bust darts worry me – if they’re in the wrong position, it’s a total disaster. I always have a hard time with wool being used (allergy issues) and why a sleeveless dress in wool fabric? However, on a slender person, I believe this would be truly gorgeous.

    Hi Tacomapat,

    This is a basic dress for you to change to your needs.
    If a V-Neck suits you best, you can easily change the neckline.
    Bust Darts always have to be adjusted, since every person is different, therefore I suggest you baste the dress first, fit it and then sew it.
    The dress can be made out of cotton or other lighter non-wool materials. (See Fatina smaller sizes)

    Our dear friend Fatina is a designer from Jordan. She is a plus herself and I don’t think that she ever though of her name as referring to her body size.
    We think it is a wonderful name reminding us of a very talented woman, who hopefully does not read what you are making out of her name.

  This dress would look so much better if the bust darts were adjusted and sewn properly. I agree that a plus-size pattern should be photo’d on a plus-sized model. It’s simply the right thing to do.

    Hi Benedikta,

    I just now saw your reply, and I’d love to expand, although I can’t post a photo.

    On the aqua/green dress especially, the bust dart comes too far in towards the center front. It should have been adjusted out about an inch, so it doesn’t end right on top of her bust. As for the sewing of the dart and the dimple left in the fabric at the point of the dart, I solve this problem by sewing toward the point of the dart, and the last 3/8 to 1/2 inch [at the dart point] is sewn as close as possible to the fold/edge of the fabric. This and a good pressing will fix it.

  Really lovely basic shift in a fantastic color for the model. I echo a lot of other posters, though, about the model not being a “plus” size. Alden has never been large, and in this shoot she looks as if she’s lost weight, so she’s even further from a plus-sized woman. It’s very difficult to visualize fitting on a larger body when your comparison is to a very “normal” sized woman. Beautiful dress, though, and Alden is gorgeous, as always.

  This is a pretty colour, but and this is a big but the neckline and small collar are really bad design features for a plus size women with a big bust because it can make her look like her boobs begin where her chin ends which is not pretty. A better design would be to have the neckline open and without the collar. Had this beenmodelled on a plus size woman with an ample bust the problem would have been more obvious added to which as the general rule goes big bust, big arms in which case a sleeveless dress is not always the best option. I sew because I am interested in style but it has to be flattering to my features and it simply isn’t enough that the pattern is made in a plus size.

  also, how could this be modified for someone who is, say, a B cup instead of a C or bigger so we don’t have a nice big fabric bulge in the front of the dress? just because we are plus sized doesn’t mean we have large chests.

  it sure would be nice to see what this would look like on a real, live plus size person with bulges and even occasionally some rolls. i know if i made this and put it on i would be as far from the model’s perspective of the dress as a taxi is from a rickshaw. please, put plus size clothes on plus size people!

  This is the first pattern I’ve bought from the website – looking forward to making it! I’ve just finished making a couple of pinafore dresses, all set for winter at work. I put the zips in the front – a wee bit different. Multi-sized patterns are great – not many of us are completely in proportion. Thanks

  This is a lovely looking plus size dress, however because it is not on a plus size model it is very hard to tell how much ease I would have around the hip and thigh area where I am heavier. Please consider using a plus size model when you can so I can make a decision when I see the dress. Now I have to think about whether I want to buy it and then hope there is enough ease for me. If I had seen it on a plus size model you would probably had a sale today.

    This IS the size of a plus size model. Regular sized models are waaay tinier than regular sized people, but that’s how the fashion world works.

    Alden makes a fantastic Plus Size model, but wouldn’t be able to be a ‘regular size’ model – and nor would i, even though its the size i wear!

  Lovely dress. Good to see something simple, classic and elegant in larger sizes. I just wish you’d choose a model that’s actually plus size. Alden is a lovely model, but she’s obviously not a 46. Why this choice of a normal size model? You’ve had similar reactions to more than one plus size pattern, as far as I can recall…
