As soon as I saw Rifka’s Felicity Fox dress, I knew what I wanted to be for Halloween. For my dress, I started with the coffee date dress pattern, but ended up changing it significantly to fit my small bust. This is my first dress from scratch, so I’m happy with the outcome, even though I had to add some bows in the back to cover my wonky zipper work. I made a little apple and leaf stamp and stamped the pattern after it was all sewn. For Mr Fox, I cut down an existing vintage jacket to make it double breasted and made some quick pants from similar corduroy I found. Notice the wheat in his pocket! Also, you can’t see in the photo, but his buttons are wooden with a burned in tree pattern. This is my favorite Halloween costume ever!

These are the best costumes I have ever seen! Any chance you would make and sell more masks?

Hello! I am obsessed with these costumes, you did an amazing job! I want to try and make these for this upcoming halloween but I was just wondering what kind of fur you used for the masks? I saw that you mentioned you got it from ebay but I was wondering if there was a specific type of fur fabric and color you used because I’m not sure what to search for on ebay. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

I went to my ebay to try and find the shop I purchased from, but my history mysteriously ended before that purchase :( Something helpful to try searching might be ‘cosplay’ fake fur or faux fur. I recommend using ‘long pile,’ meaning longer length fur. The 1 in. fur is cheaper, but it doesn’t look nearly as nice. I think the orange fur was actually labeled ‘red fox’ colored. Good luck! Please let me know how it comes out!

This is great! Love the collar on the dress! In what way did you alter the bodice to fit your bust? I’ve made one coffeedate dress and would love to make another one if I can get the bust to fit me, I seem to have the same problem you had :)

Ugh I wish I could tell you! It was a lot of trying on, pinning, sewing, repeat! Since then, I’ve made my own bust pattern that involved fitting craft paper to myself in a princess seam style. I think princess seams lend themselves well to smaller busts.

Thanks thanks thanks everybody for all the kind words! We got lots of props on Halloween, which is definitely our favorite holiday, as I’m sure you can tell :) For the masks, I bought some cheapo plastic fox masks, and then hot glued the two different types of fur fabric, which I got on ebay. I cut a few different shapes of fur to try to follow the shape of the mask. I used black wool roving for the ears and my eyes, and then added some ‘craft whiskers’ I also got on ebay. However, a coworker burst my bubble after I paid for them by suggesting I just cut some plastic broom whiskers instead, which would have worked perfectly!
