Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I made this coat out of necessity, and am quite pleased with myself. Using a pattern given to me (Family Circle no.44), I adjusted it for my long waist and longer arms and went for it. The only changes I made were to add belt loops and to make the collar a little bit smaller. I added button popper fasteners after wearing it a few times, as the belt alone wasn’t brilliant at keeping the coat where it should be.
I had a panic mid-coat about interlining, and then about pre-shrinking, which was something I had never heard about. Lovely Burdastyle members set me straight, and I was pleased to find out ways of interlining, and also that my wool had been pre-shrunk.
It’s made from 100% wool, with a cotton velvet collar and polyester lining, thick cotton interlining. It’s surprisingly warm, and it’s brilliant having coat arms long enough to keep my wrists warm.
Overall I am pleased with it, although I feel a bit like a 70s detective when wearing it.
(p.s. I took the pictures after wearing it for a month, so it’s a bit creasy… bad presentation I know)
