Falling Ivy Leaves Coat
Added Jun 23, 2013
There were two weddings on this weekend, so of course I had to do some sewing! Given that June is winter down here, I thought I should have a coat over the top of my dress (Pleated Fan Dress). The fabric is a crepe, but I’m not sure what it’s made of. It was bought at the Fabric Cave (Sydney and surrounds Burdastylers – you must go there) for about $5. It’s fairly thin so it drapes beautifully, but it was surprisingly, given the weather, not too cold.
The pattern is the Parisienne Coat from Decades of Style (http://www.decadesofstyle.com/vintage-patterns-1930s/3101-1931-parisienne-coat), and was very easy to make. I only started cutting out the pattern pieces on Thursday night and didn’t start sewing until about 8:30pm Friday, but it was finished just in time to go to the first wedding. Still, note to self and others: starting a project so late isn’t a good idea. I didn’t do the suggested decorative stitching and pleats on the coat because I didn’t have time, but also I don’t think it needs anything with the print.
