Falling Ivy Leaves Coat

Sydney, Australia

There were two weddings on this weekend, so of course I had to do some sewing! Given that June is winter down here, I thought I should have a coat over the top of my dress (Pleated Fan Dress). The fabric is a crepe, but I’m not sure what it’s made of. It was bought at the Fabric Cave (Sydney and surrounds Burdastylers – you must go there) for about $5. It’s fairly thin so it drapes beautifully, but it was surprisingly, given the weather, not too cold.
The pattern is the Parisienne Coat from Decades of Style (, and was very easy to make. I only started cutting out the pattern pieces on Thursday night and didn’t start sewing until about 8:30pm Friday, but it was finished just in time to go to the first wedding. Still, note to self and others: starting a project so late isn’t a good idea. I didn’t do the suggested decorative stitching and pleats on the coat because I didn’t have time, but also I don’t think it needs anything with the print.

The print has a vintage look and seems as though it’d keep the wind at bay.

Thanks, yes I saw the fabric and thought it would be a really good match for the fabric. And it did keep me surprisingly warm on a cold and wet day.
