I’d recently seen a tutorial for covering shoes, so when BurdaStyle posted theirs, I figured i’d give it a try. originally I covered these suede platforms in a cotton that went on as easy as tutorial said it would, unfortunately i’d chosen a fabric so dated i looked like a spice girl circa ’96. So then i covered that it a red silk chiffon, which looked really promising, until I noticed too many splotches of glue seeping through… when peeling off all that fabric it also took off the original suede. good glue. this time I used a poly crepe dress.
The Burda tutorial covers it all, though i did add I fusible interfacing, figuring it would help the glue not stain & some baby nails & to secure fabric around straps…
I still haven’t decided what embellishments, ie bows, buckles, what colors etc, any suggestions?
I think they turned out fine, but I’m pretty sure i can hear my Miu Miu cloth shoes mocking me from the other room. Next time I’ll use cotton, and a fabric/pattern I’m more excited about. I have the same liberty fabric (in blue) as the tutorial but didn’t want to straight up copy her fabulous shoes. : )
i posted some of my fabric prints in an earlier project, so i might use one of those. If you’ve a pigment based inkjet printer (wide format is helpful) it’s a great way to print small batches or test run before you place a spoonflower order.
Oh, when I try to add project based on “Fabric Covered Shoes: Make Your Own by Allison Dahl” it won’t let me, anyone know why?
