Description

Fabric postcards are a fun way to recycle scrap pieces of fabric. Because they are homemade, they don’t need to be perfect and they require only straight lines and corners (no curves!) making the ideal project for beginners.

Material Notes

To make this project, you will need: 2 pieces of fabric, 8" x 6" or 20 cm x 15cm each. 1 piece should be of a plain material in a light color (such as white or ivory) that you can write on, such as cotton, muslin, or a cotton/poly blend. 1 piece should be patterned or colored in your choice. For both fabrics, avoid knits or stretch material, lame, lace or eyelet. 2 pieces of medium weight fusible interfacing, 8" x 6" or 20 cm x 15cm each Ruler, Pencil, Scissors, Sewing Machine, Thread, Pins You should use a thread that is darker or in contrast to the plain fabric. This should NOT match or be close in color to the fabric.

Yay! I made them! I made them for a gift for a bridal shower-they were so perfect, and the bride-to-be was so appreciative! :)

These are such sweet little cards! I do have one question-how do you get the postage stamp to stay on? Or… are these not actually supposed to be used as postal cards? Anyway, they’re totally cute and looks like a great, quick gift idea!

If you use the self-adhesive stamps, they stay on pretty well.

Our stamps come on a pre-printed sticker sheet. Normally you toss out the bits around the stamps (like the price area, post office name, etc), but I used those leftover pieces to “test stick” onto different fabrics I already had lying around to find out which ones adhered the best.

You could also hand sew the stamp to hold it in place, but be sure to check with the post office in your country FIRST to make sure that it doesn’t invalidate it.
