Description
A versatile jacket for the ones that are looking into looking SHARP this fall. In our houndstooth version we shortened the whole thing, which is a great trick to make yourself appear taller. The two little pockets as well as the cuffs can be cut on bias. That creates an interesting look in geometric patterns and stripes.
Material Notes
houndstooth, three buttons, some interfacing, some horsehair to make the collar fit well
Difficulty
Intermediate

I’m just about to start my project now, just about to cut out the fabric, hoping it turns out as nice as some of the others on here.
Thanks.
Hannah.

We have those sewing sessions every Tuesday night from 6.30 till 8.30 in Brooklyn in the Etsy Labs. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you more info..

Hi Ednaw, I actually meant, if I were your teacher I would love to teach you right away..We have a sewing lesson in Brooklyn every Tuesday, but that is obviously a bit far fetched. What I also meant is that we have many tutorials in the how to section that can help you if you ever do not understand something and the forums are here for you to ask questions to all your fellow members regarding sewing issues. I do think that as a first project it is a bit ambitious to make a jacket, since you may have to get used to the language and how to assemble things, but it won’t be too long and you can pretty much do anything on this site..

Benedikta,
I tried to send this to you as a pm, but the system is doing some strange stuff, so I’ll post here.
Thanks for your response about whether a beginner can sew this jacket. When you wrote, “We would love to teach you anytime how to do this jacket!”, I was happy and a bit confused as to what exactly that means. I’m new to your site and I’m a little unclear as to all it has to offer. If you could clarify a few things for me, I’d be grateful.
I love this site! I’m completely new to sewing and I can’t wait to make some of these pieces.
Thank you! Edna

Glad to hear that you all like the model…. Ednaw, I would best ask your teacher of you are ready to do it. She will know by then if what your capabilities and your level of patience :) when it comes to sewing is…We would love to teach you anytime how to do this jacket!

Okay, what are the chances of a new beginner being able to make this? I’m taking a class now where we’re making an elastic waist skirt. I’ll be taken a class in November where we’ll make a structured skirt with a zipper. Any chance I can do this in December, or is it just a pipe dream?

ooh, I’m loving the jacket – the red buttons really bring out that red thread in the tartan. (and I think this model lady is my favourite of your recent ones, too!)

very nice!! yes please explain horsehair!! And, if possible, a tutorial on the sewing of the collar part would be very very much appreciated! I just finished a similar jacket and the collar did not turn out so well. :)
