Description

I finished this dress yesterday. I’m really thrilled with it, especially since I had to do about 2342398 toiles to get the pattern right. It took me forever to design this dress… the fabric has such a GORGEOUS pattern, so I wanted a design to show that off.. but at the same time it has such a GORGEOUS drape, so I wanted to show that off also. Anyway, I think the simplicity of the design works really well and makes the most of the tremendous fabric.

Sorry about my horrendous sunburn. It’s been 3 months and it still hasn’t gone away :(

Check out my blog for more of my creations.

Absolutely stunning! I love how the pattern accentuates natural your curves, and the deep back gives just enough sex appeal! Kudos on the design, it is lovely!!

Are the sleeves a full circle??

Thanks so much! I wanted full circles but I didn’t have enough fabric. So they are semi circles :)

Love it. The whole dress is wonderful, but I love the sleeves. I am one of those people who don’t like a lot of upper arm showing so these sleeves would be great. With the simplicity of the rest of the dress it really makes the focus (visual interest) on the sleeves. I also love the low rounded back. Just lovely.

Thanks so much! I also love to cover my arms as they are definitely not my finest feature. I’ve got a few things with similar sleeves and they’re always flattering.

I was just thinking about you last night and wondering where you’d got to!

I never ever ever use commercial patterns, as I hate them. HOWEVER someone gave me McCall’s 7671 (it’s 1960s and is out of print but you’ll be able to find it on ebay), so I caved in and used it for this dress. It reminded me how much I hate commercial patterns as I had to alter it so much that it would have been quicker just to make my own pattern….

The sleeves are not part of the pattern, though. They’re just semi circles!

I was looking for a dress pattern this weekend with a sleeve just like this! I’d like the dress to be a bit longer and flared, but this gives me inspiration to create my own pattern. Yikes! I think I can…I think I can…

I know you can! You could just make Elaine’s Coffee Date dress (without the ruffle) and add circular sleeves. Would be perfect.

its fantabulously gorgeous…. but i would expect nothing less from you. The fabric is to die for and those sleeves are insane! I’m going to have to start a fire at your place so I can run off with this piece!

Oh, Lily, I love it! You were quite right, the sleeves are spectacular. I want to copy it… saw a dress in the shops with slightly similar sleeves yesterday that I felt inspired by, but yours is even nicer… great work!

Thanks Karin! Please go ahead and copy it! You’ll have no trouble making the pattern. The sleeves are really really easy. They are just semi-circles (I would have done full circles, but I didn’t have enough fabric).

Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen was wearing something similar on Oprah once. It was black with white sleeves, or white with black sleeves… (I can’t remember) and it looked wonderful.
