So, for my niece’s 6th birthday, I finally made the dress I promised her a year ago. She really wanted me to make her a dress for Lunar New Year / Spring Festival celebration that my family does every year. So I herein deliver for her birthday gift.
This is my own design. It is essentially a tube dress sewn up the back so the seam lies on the spine of the body. I then matched up ess-shaped sleeves to the tube, and cut the pattern to match, leaving slits on either side of the tube, spine seam centered. The collar / neck of the dress will fit her like a cowl I think, 1940’s style. (I’ll know tomorrow when I give it to her!!)
Sewed it all up, and voila!
The red material for the body of the dress is a polyester blended stretch knit, intended to be made into a bathing suit for me two summers ago. The sleeves were once curtains I purchased at a town market in West Philadelphia, material is something like crinoline I think with embroidered sequins and stitching. The collar is also from the curtains. (Bought that two years ago when I thought I might want to marry someone someday: I would make the veil from this stuff. Alas there is still another whole panel of the stuff, so I guess there’s still hope.)
