The pattern has finished garment measurements printed on it. You should base your size choice off the hip measurement as compared to your actual hip. For this cut of trousers I recomend no more than an inch of ease.

I used this pattern to make shorts from this weekend. I recorded my measurements and went by the Burda size chart but the shorts are much too large. Does anyone have any recommendations that worked for them as to how many sizes smaller I should go to make them fit? I would like to try again with this pattern because I really like the style of the pants. It’s just a bummer because I used some great fabric that I only had a very limited quantity of.

Can’t recomment this pattern. I did it in size 38 (usually my size), and it was miles too large for me. Yes, I checked the pattern – my printer printed it out in the original size.
Burda has done a lot of awesome basic trouser patterns, but this is not one of them.

ahh – i guess that is why i ended up using a size 38 (when my measurements state a 40)!
My 38 fits perfectly though!

Will try this pattern – especially for fit. Looks like a good basic pant pattern
