i learned a couple of things while making these pants. first, don’t bother with the instructions. i’ve always been bad about using instructions or user manuals, but this time i made an effort to read through the provided instructions. it turns out that they have very little to do with the pants in question. so i did it my way.
the second thing i learned from these pants is that i’m not a size 40! i thought i measured myself correctly when picking the size, but the pants turned out rather loose and veeerrryyy big in the waist. i deepened the rear darts and even added two more darts in the back. i also shaved off an inch or two from the side seams.

I made them last night, and you are totally right about the size, I took my measurements, and I’m a size 40, (I recently made a pair of BWOF pants in size 40 and the fit was perfect, so I didn’t think there would be any fit issue with this one, but yes, they are too loose, I will do size 38, if that doesn’t fit better, I’m done with this pattern. I really like the style though, I hope size 38 will be a great fit.

Cute contrast on the topstitching
-and wow, how do you make those perfect straight and curved lines?Oct 2, 2007, 01.42 PMby sunnyb64
Thanks for the heads-up about the instructions— this is on my list of things to make in the fairly near future (have the fabric, I just have a few more things to finish up first). And it’s good to see another pair made up.

well, the instructions show pieces that aren’t included in the pattern pieces, and forget to mention pieces that are! for example, the pocket flaps are mentioned, but not a peep about the actual pockets. fortunately, the pattern itself is complete and gives you all the pieces you need to make the pants as shown in the photos. if i make these pants again, i will try my hand at putting together a how-to for constructing them. and thank you for the comments! i had fun picking out the topstitching thread.

Yes! the top-stitching color is great!
I’m somewhere in between a 38 and 40 Burda size…but sometimes even 38 is a little loose for me. Other times I need the 40 for the length of the waist line.
Thanks for pointing out that 40 is big in this case.
