My partner and I decided to get married last year, but we wanted to keep it simple. So, we invited our parents to come with us to the courthouse and join us for dinner at a local pub with great food. It worked! We all had a great time, and it was really easy going.
I sewed my dress based on my first pattern making experiment, a very simple cut. I made it more interesting by adding a midsection of contrasting fabric. The little hat and veil were my favorite detail, I also love the silk bow-tie that I made out of the same material as my dress.
The material was my grandmother’s, she was an avid traveler and left behind several yards of gorgeous Thai silk for me to inherit. I knew right away that I wanted to use it for the dress. I only wish there were more time to put into it. We were scheduled to move just two days after our wedding, and I only had a week to find, make, and fit my bridal outfit!

Congratulations! The more we decided to leave out of our wedding we found the things we did chose became that much more meaningful. It was definitely a good decision. I’m glad to hear that you had a great experience too.

You did an amazing job. What a wonderful way to remember your Grandma. She will be so proud! The colour of the silk is stunning! May I ask what pattern you used?

At the moment my sewing materials are packed up and I can’t get to them! But I mostly drew up the pattern myself based on a dress I had made before that I liked the fit of. It was really fun!
