This was one of my most slowest projects and I was hoping to finish it until May 25 – Youth Day (Tito’s official birthday) .. And I did it! My new shirt dress was ready to wear..
The fabric is hand dyed lightweight cotton.. If you’re interested to see more about the process, you can read it here .. While playing with hand dyed fabric, I noticed that placing of the colors reminds me of a flag.. Probably one of Yugoslav republics.. After checking, blue-white-red were flag colors of SFR Yugoslavia .. Really funny thing.. Like I’m a fan of communist post WWII Yugoslavia.. To that impression adds my pattern pick – shirt dress #108 from Burda 01/2011.. Now every time I put it on, I feel like I’m going to youth work actions ..
I sewed the dress with two layers of fabric.. One was too sheer.. My change to the pattern is adding darts at front, as it is with the shirt #107 from the same Burda issue.. That way it looks neater when I put a waistband.. Without waistband, the dress doesn’t have a shape.. Especially for this dress I bought these cute stripped buttons, with almost matching color combo.. Also, I remembered that somewhere I have two color thread, white and blue, perfect for topstitching..
I was stuck with this project for months.. It’s good that I finished it, because it’s only when I sewed all parts together the dress started to look cute and wearable.. Now I really love how it turned out.. I’m ready for the next quest..
