This was the first dress I ever made, three years ago (!), but I never took pictures of it until recently. It’s the perfect beginner project; there are all of seven straight seams, and no fitting required! It does, however, hinge on having a great wide belt to keep it from looking like what it is: two rectangles tied together.

what a fantastic idea! i am a very new sewer started out on cushions and now ready to make clothes this is definitely a starter project for me love it love it! gonna find a really nice patterned jersey next week do you think this would work with a more sheer fabric like a chiffon perhaps (with lining of course)

I think chiffon would be fine! If you don’t want to line it you could double it up or even just wear a slip underneath.
