It’s been many years since I’ve dyed fabric and I’ve never been what anyone would call an expert. This project is a practice run in preparation for leading a beginning level workshop in silk veil dyeing. I used the ‘pickle jar’ technique which involves mixing dyes in a glass jar and then cramming your crumpled, wet silk in after. The results have wonderful visual texture and unpredictable dye levels that make it perfect for veils used with poi and belly dance. I started with a packet of iDye Royal Blue, True Red and Sun Yellow. The dye and the silk came from Dharma Trading Co.
