i made this coat for my 8 yr old daughter. she needed a new coat for the winter and when i saw this pattern i knew i just had to make it! this design is casual enough for every day use, but still has a nice polished look. i made only slight modifications: changed the single welt pockets to an inset welt, drafted a facing for the inside of the hood, and switched out the toggle buttons for a loop and button closure.
i think this is a really nice pattern and i’m pleased with the outcome! the only thing i would do differently is adjust the front pieces so that the zipper is sewn into the front band seam allowance. the pattern has it top stitched in place. had i been able to find a zip in the right color it wouldn’t bother me so much, but my selection was pretty limited.
if you are a pattern review member, i have entered this in the sewing for children contest.
