New York, New Yo...
The TV series Mad Men has taken classic fashion lovers for a ride. Today’s dress, derived from the Margarete top, would fit right in to an office party at Sterling Cooper— or on the streets of New York city in high style. Conceived by the talented BurdaStyle member embaby, this week she’ll show you how to draft your own drop waist dress, and march in vintage-inspired style.
“I’ve chosen to do a 50s drop waist for this dress. Instead of piping, I used ric-rac for the top of the bodice. I’ve also added sewable boning and padding to the original design. The fabrics are from Ikea- autumn hues of camel and grey. I made mine out of cotton since its summer all year round at the equator but the use of cord, wool blend for this dress will be perfect for autumn.”
