Description

So one of the things I am learning fast as I gain my sewing skills more slowly is that choosing the right fabric for the right project is crucial and knowing that your size can vary between different pattens and styles too. The blouse I am wearing started off life as a basic ‘semi’ fitted dress that on completion was problematic in so many ways. The fabric was too thin and didnt drape well, it was too short as I didnt lengthen the pattern and it was definitely not ‘semi’ fitted over the hips, basically it looked terrible. After staring at in my closet for a about 2 months I had a brainwave and hacked off the bottom of it and turned it into a cute little blouse and I used the discarded fabric on a couple of bag projects and to make a tie belt. Now I think it might be something I might actually wear. I also made the skirt too, so this is my first complete look!

Well the dress pattern was by Butterick, B5210 and in terms of how I converted it from the ill fitting dress into the blouse I just cut it off about 3 inches below where the long back zipper ended, and hemmed it…. voila

Wow – I love the combination! I don’t know what it would have looked like as a dress, but as a blouse it is fabulous and the skirt is amazing! It fits you perfectly!

I really like the blouse, and it looks great with the skirt! I also like that you rescued another project, you’ve inspired me to take another look at some of my less successful projects.
